“The Big Empty,” by J.B. Stephens is a science fiction novel about a post disaster world.
Book Cover of The Big Empty by J.B. Stephens
Before the plague had been named it had already killed more than half of the world's population. With entire cities wiped out, the United States infrastructure came to a halt. When communication systems and other services failed a military government came to power. The new governments solution was to make the U.S. interior an evacuated zone. With all the survivors moved to the coast lands the nation's infrastructure can be maintained. But inside the evacuated zone, called The Big Empty, government soldiers patrol with orders to shoot to kill.

Seven teenagers, however, will band together in the Big Empty. Some left the populated area because they were on the run, some are just looking to start a new life, and some want to escape the oppressive military government, but they all have one goal: find Novo Mundum, a secret Utopian society that has been established in the heart of The Big Empty.

“The Big Empty” is a very realistic science fiction story. The plot makes sense, and the characters are solid. J.B. Stephen has created a richly detailed world that stands alone very well. Science fiction readers should enjoy this fascinating book.

I am a student in middle school and I just finished reading the Big Empty. The feel of the book changed a lot from the beggining to end. From hopeless in the remaining cities to happiness with Novo Mundum. It was an enchanting story that I think is very inspiring to teens.

I'm glad that you enjoyed "The Big Empty." This is just the first book in a much longer series.

In the next few books Novo Mundum won't seem like such a perfect place, that much I will tell you!

Yes, the sequel is "Paradise City." I thought I had a review of it posted here on Inkweaver Review, but I guess not.

I'll have to look into that.

I liked this book but Nathan I was trying to find some kind of author information but couldn't find any thing do you know any thing or where to find someting about him

I have a question. Do you know anything about the author? I have been trying to look him up everywhere in the internet but, nothing pops up. Its like as if he/she was invisible or the best person at hiding. If you have any information, I would appreaciate if you would share it. Because I want to do a book report and present it to my class.

Thanks, JT

I have found information suggesting that J.B. Stephens is a pen name for an author named Liz Braswell. Look at the "disambiguation notice" on the following webpage:

Info about Liz Braswell should be slightly easier to find. She seems to be a rather reclusive author though she does have a LiveJournal blog you might find interesting.

In all likelihood, essayists are accessible for the help of understudies who feel that author can empower them to well amidst the instructive period. I think, specialists are serving to www.scriptwriting.biz/amazing-stories-on-bestsellers-script-doctoring/ who work excessively and don't stir the extra chance to finish their long and essential assignments.
