This looks like a great book for my 10 year old daughter. Lately I have been reading a lot of historical fiction books- in fact I just finished one this week titled, The Shopkeeper by James D. Best- a great story about a man who travels from NY to the wild west (1879) and writes about his adventures along the way. I have felt as though it is just a little too mature for her, but think that this series would be perfect for her. Thank you for the great tip!

Yes, "Beyond the Western Sea" is very clean, and well suited for the younger age group. A lot of historical fiction tends to mix in all sorts of violence, sex, etc, but Avi's historical fiction series is very good.

I think that your daughter will definitely enjoy the series.
