“Red Cap,” by G. Clifton Wisler is a historical fiction novel based on the life of a boy who lived during the American Civil War.At the age of thirteen Ransom left home against his family's wishes to join the Civil War. At first the Union Army wouldn't accept him, but after lying about his age Ransom was finally accepted into the army as a drummer boy.
“Red Cap” does a good job of showing the reasons why most young boys left home to join the Civil War. Most of the youngsters around Ransom joined the army just to get away from home or to be with their friends. None of them are prepared for the reality of war.

ReplyDeleteThis book appeals to people that LIKE historical fiction or nonfiction that like no action taste. From my point of view, the book was fine. It put me to sleep at first but is had some meaning. You my think I am a total jerk but it is true. There was important themes in the book and i recommend this book to kids that want to know what it is like to be in war, seriously in the middle of war where friends are dying one by one and you are losing friends by the day. What would you do if you had a best friend and they died in front of your eyes.

ReplyDeleteit was an ok sort of book. I wanted to go to sleep but got over it. I did start to enjoy it. If you like boring non-ation books, then this is the book for you!
