“Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson

“Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson is a moving novel that is definitely deserving of its Newberry Award Medal.

Jess Aaron wants to be the fastest runner at his school, but when the new girl beats him, she destroys his chances of impressing his classmates. Gradually, however, a friendship develops between the two children, as they deal with the teasing of classmates, money problems and less-than-perfect families. Together they create Terabithia, a imaginary fantasy land where all their dreams come true. It is only when tragedy strikes that Jess realizes the strength and courage that Leslie has left him with.

“Bridge to Terabithia” has one of those sad, yet touching endings whose timeless eloquence I’ll always remember. I would highly recommend this beautifully written book to readers of all ages.
